Rabbit season

$800.00

I made the dog here long before I figured out what to do with it. Then one day I realized it should be made into an homage to the charming Staffordshire pottery ‘flatbacks’ I enjoy looking at. I was probably watching the BBC Antiques Roadshow.

From those things I took my inspiration for the naive style of the tree (the trunk is a shed deer antler), and for the mounded form of the ‘earth’. However, where flatbacks are generally uninteresting on the reverse, that’s where you’ll find the humor in this piece.

Glass artist Wayne Robbins made the very expressive dog head. The base is fashioned from an old egg cup and mini brioche tin.

Stands 10 inches tall.
