Barely findable down a very short street, in a very old part of Paris’ Marais neighborhood, there was formerly a cave-like shop containing decades’ worth of new-old-stock jewelry and components. ‘Gros achat’ (wholesale) only, it was run by a lady who brooked absolutely no nonsense. In other words, bring cash.
Here I found just a pair of heart brooches, and believe me I looked through every drawer I could find.
This coral-orange one is brightened and transformed by the addition of hand-painted ribbon, giving it the aspect of a corsage. Between the two layers of pleats I inserted vintage pearly yellow leaf-shaped sequins, just visible to add shine.
