The Latest

I was a little mortified to see how long it’s been since I updated this site. I’d like to say that’s because I’ve been doing lots of in-person shows and making tons of amazing work but it’s not.

The filler text on this blog template says not to overthink it; that the beauty of my story is that it’s going to continue to evolve. Isn’t that the truth! I don’t even know where to start.

Well, I’ll go back to my last website update. I was about 6 months into showing my work at a gallery here at Lake Tahoe and really enjoying it. It’s a co-op gallery and it was fun working there a couple of days a month. Unfortunately, I started to have some shocking, scary headaches that were totally unpredictable. I had to quit the gallery just when I was finding some success.

My doctor and I believed the trigger was a recent prescription I had started, so I stopped taking that and found relief. I kept doing some in-person events and showed some jewelry here in town for a little while. Meanwhile, my 15-year relationship was going to pieces. I fled to Paris last fall on miles (thanks, COVID!) and sourced some exciting new materials to use in my mixed media work. During the winter of 24-25 I worked as the second-oldest rookie snowboard instructor on the hill (don’t ask!). I carpooled with my neighbor, who happened to be the oldest rookie! The ensuing exhaustion was an excellent sleep aid. I certainly didn’t get any artwork done, though. After two lessons in a day all I could do was soak in the tub and go to bed.

With the spring these crazy headaches also returned. While still unpredictable, they aren’t as frequent, and I have been working like crazy. The musical instrument parts I brought back from France (that’s another story) are leading to a new collection of songbirds that I’m so pleased with. I just returned from showing them at the Clay and Glass show in Palo Alto with my most cherished friends and frequent collaborators, Wayne Robbins and Judie Mountain. I thought I had better get this site refreshed just in case somebody comes to visit.

And I’ve been taking my house apart, hoping someone will come to visit South Lake Tahoe- I moved to the apartment over the garage and will be renting out my two-bedroom house to vacationers. Now that has been a BIG job! It wouldn’t have happened if my neighbors hadn’t stepped in to help, and I’m so grateful. We’re nearly done, in plenty of time for Labor Day. If you’d like to come and stay, send me an email. With two bedrooms, two baths, and a game room with twin foldouts the house comfortably sleeps six!

The remaining advice from Squarespace on writing a blog: “Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.”

Sounds good to me.

PS I’ve got a referral to a neurologist at UC Davis, so hopefully we’ll get a handle on this headache thing.
